The fluid a moving cylinder carries with it
Kinetic energy density around a cylinder moving through fluid that is at rest far away. The fluid is not dragged along in a lump: it is pushed aside in front and closes in behind, and the energy in that motion is what has to be supplied to change the body's speed.
