The two depths a reach has, and the Froude number that separates them
The friction slope and the Froude number against depth for a wide rectangular channel carrying three square metres a second per metre of width. The normal depth is where the friction slope equals the bed slope; the critical depth is where the Froude number is one. Neither is the depth the water has.
